Welcome to the club, Durham! The minimum-soil-volumes-for-street-trees club, that is.

Durham’s recently released landscape manual now includes the following soil volume requirements for street trees:

Large trees = 700 cubic feet
Medium trees = 500 cubic feet
Small trees = 300 cubic feet

The manual was last updated in 2006.

As always, you can find a list of all the municipal soil volume minimums that we are aware of here. If you know of a city or town with a soil volume minimum that we’re missing, please email us at rethinktrees@deeproot.com so that we can keep the list up to date.
